Did you know that more people are afraid of the dentist than they are of heights?

If you are afraid of getting dental treatment, then it might make you feel better to know that you are not alone. Dentistry can be a source of anxiety for almost half of UK adults, according to the Oral Health Foundation.

Just knowing that dental anxiety is common does not make it easier to cope with.

Is your dental fear holding you back from getting the treatment you need? We understand and we are ready to help. Our team here at Allsopp Dental has some tips and treatments that could make it easier for you to benefit from the dental treatments we offer.

Common questions about general dentistry

  • How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

Dental professionals recommend having a dental checkup and clean twice per year. Some people need a cleaning more often than once every six months, however. If you suffer from gum disease or have excess tartar buildup, then you may need to have three or four cleans each year.

  • Does it hurt to get a filing?

It does not hurt to get a filling. Our dentist will numb your tooth with some local anaesthetic before drilling away the decayed area. You may experience a little sensitivity for a day as your tooth adjusts to the filling, but nothing more than that. If dental treatment makes you nervous, then we can offer some dental sedation to help you relax.

  • Why are dental X-rays important?

X-rays are the only way dentists can see inside your teeth without opening them up. X-rays help dentists identify cavities and other potential problems to treat them before they get worse.

  • Why should I see a dentist regularly?

Regular dental visits will help you keep your teeth and gums healthy and minimise your need for treatments like dental crowns.
