What is the vitamin B12 Injection?

The vitamin B12 injection is an extremely effective way to enjoy a natural boost to your health.

B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that is naturally found in some foods. So much more than just a nice-to-have vitamin, B12 is essential for ensuring the correct function of your blood cells, nerves, and brain.

With so many food allergies, lifestyle choices, and dietary preferences now a normal part of daily life, it can be difficult to make sure you are always getting the vitamins and nutrients you need. Because it’s mainly found in animal-based products, those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet are often more likely to be vitamin B12 deficient.

Our Vitamin B12 injection at Allsopp Dental is a quick, safe and effective way of giving your body and your mind a healthy dose of TLC.

What happens during a vitamin B12 appointment?

During your initial consultation with one of our skilled team members here in Walsall, we'll discuss the treatment process in depth, answer your questions and decide if the vitamin B12 injection is right for you.

If so, you will receive your first injection – usually into the muscle on the outside of your upper arm. This gives your body instant access to all the goodness of the vitamin, so you notice the results quickly. This little injection of vitamin B12 can give you a boost of energy which stimulates your metabolism!

For the first initial course of treatment, you will need one dose a week for a four-week period. And we recommend a follow-up dose every six weeks for long-lasting results.

Am I a good candidate for a B12 boost?

Many foods, including fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products, are rich in B12 and provide adequate amounts for many people. However, some people have difficulty absorbing the essential vitamin, while others may simply want an additional boost. Long-term B12 deficiency can cause a variety of health problems, ranging from tiredness, loss of appetite and depression, to damage to the nervous system.

The solution? A quick and safe vitamin B12 injection from our practice in Walsall.

Common questions about vitamin B12 injections

  • What exactly is vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an important role in many tasks, such as forming red blood cells, maintaining the central nervous system, and other bodily functions. It is one of the most important vitamins because it performs essential functions like assisting in keeping a healthy blood flow and controlling key enzymes in your body.

  • Who needs vitamin B12 injections?

We recommend our vitamin B12 injections to patients whose diet lacks a natural intake of the vitamin. When you visit us in practice, our team will test you for a deficiency first, to make sure that you are suitable for the treatment.

  • Is an injection more effective than taking a vitamin B12 tablet?

A B12 injection is an enhanced version of taking a multi-vitamin. It has a higher rate of absorption than a simple vitamin tablet, so you feel the positive effects quickly.

  • Is one injection of vitamin B12 enough?

It is possible to have just one dose of vitamin B12 and notice results, but you may not see all the benefits. At Allsopp Dental we recommend that our patients complete an initial four-week course, with one injection per week, and then follow this up with one injection as a little boost, every six weeks.

  • Can I get the amount of vitamin B12 I need just by eating certain types of food?

As with supplements, food sources of B12 lose a significant amount of the vitamin in the absorption process, so you'd have to eat a lot of meat and dairy products to get the needed levels of B12 into your body.  The most effective way to get B12 into your system is with an injection.

  • Are there any side effects of the vitamin B12 injection?

Patients may experience a slight ache in their arm for a few hours after the treatment. And as with any injection there is the potential of some very minor bleeding. Any side effects should subside quickly, leaving you feeling healthy and full of energy.
